. James Normand Trustee and Chair of the Board Expand James Normand James joined the Board of Trustees of AtaLoss in 2022 and assumed the Chair early in 2024. Having qualified as Chartered Accountant in 1978, James spent much of his career in the field of corporate finance advice. He is currently an executive director of a small investing company listed on AIM and executive chairman of an unlisted investing company, both in the technology sector. For 24 years until 2021, James was a member of the Bishop of London’s Council and of its Finance Committee (latterly as Chair). He served three terms as Chair of the House of Laity of the London Diocesan Synod; and four terms as Lay Chair of the Chelsea Deanery Synod. He and his wife, Celia, live in London.

Jane Oundjian MBE Trustee Expand Jane Oundjian MBE Jane trained as a counsellor at Westminster Pastoral Foundation in 1993 and went on to train with Cruse Bereavement Care, for whom she worked for many years in the North Kensington area, giving one to one bereavement support to clients and helping to run counselling training sessions for the Branch. Jane has had her own bereavement experiences having lost her single parent mother at the age of 16 and also her first child when he was 14 months old. These experiences eventually led her in 1995 to write and develop a six-session group programme designed to help grieving people. She ran this course, The Bereavement Journey, for 23 years at Holy Trinity Brompton and now continues to run it where she lives, in West Sussex. The Bereavement Journey material was filmed in 2015 and the course now runs all over the UK and overseas. Jane was awarded an MBE for services to bereaved people in the Queen's Birthday Honours List in 2020.

As a qualified accountant he is the Finance Director at Unbiased (a UK leading FinTech platform) and is based with his family in Guildford. Adam May Adviser Expand Adam May Adam May is a Communications Consultant who has over 15 years of experience liaising with a range of media outlets and speaking as a social affairs commentator in his own right. He has worked for a number of national charities and has served on a strategic Government working group so understands the political landscape. Adam lives in a small village in Bedfordshire with his wife, Becky, and two children. He advises AtaLoss on external communications and media relations.
Alison Inglis-Jones Adviser Expand Alison Inglis-Jones Alison Inglis-Jones is a local councillor in the London Borough of Lambeth, with a background in both the voluntary and private sectors. She has a demonstrated history of working with the voluntary sector addressing poverty and welfare issues faced by the most vulnerable in the U.K. Strong strategic and on the ground experience driven by a faith commitment to social justice.
Hamish Elvidge MBE Adviser Expand Hamish Elvidge MBA Hamish Elvidge is married with four children aged 31 to 40. He had a 30-year career at J Sainsbury plc as Finance, IT and Change Director and finally, as Competition Inquiry Director before retiring in 2010. He is chair of The Matthew Elvidge Trust, which was formed after his third son, Matthew took his own life, aged 23 after a very short period of anxiety and depression. He was a member of the National Suicide Prevention Strategy Advisory Group (2012 -2022), founding member of the Universities UK Mental Health Advisory Group, Founder and Patron of the Support after Suicide Partnership and Founder of the Schools Wellbeing Partnership. Hamish received an MBE in the King's New Year Honours in 2023.

Bereavement Friendly Communities are a connected web of organisations and individuals that provide support and seek to improve the lives of bereaved people within their community. Lindsay is based in Birmingham. She is developing a Bereavement Friendly Community in her own neighbourhood and is helping us to develop an effective model that can be replicated elsewhere in the UK. Professor Keith Brown Trustee Expand Professor Keith Brown Professor Keith Brown was the founding Director of the National Centre for Post Qualifying Social Work and Professional Practice and he is an Emeritus Professor at Bournemouth University where the social work department was ranked number 1 in the UK in the 2020 and 2021 Guardian League Table. In 2005 he was awarded the Linda Ammon memorial prize sponsored by the then Department for education and skills awarded to the individual making the greatest contribution to education and training in the UK. He was awarded a Chartered Trading Standard Institute [CTSI]’ Institutional Hero’ award in 2017 recognising the significance of his research into financial fraud and scams. For the past 7 years he has led the national research into fraud and scams on behalf of the National Trading Standards Scams team and the Chartered Trading Standards Institute. He sits on the Department of Health and Social Care safeguarding advisory board, the joint DHSC and MOJ National Mental Capacity Leadership forum and the Home Office Joint Financial task force. He has written over 35 text books in the fields of social work and leadership and is particularly known for his contributions in the areas of Mental Capacity and Leadership. He has written national guidance on Advance Care Planning, Advance Decisions to Refuse Treatment and the value and use of Lasting Powers of Attorney. Since his retirement from a full time academic post he has been the Independent Chair of the NHS Safeguarding Adults National Network, the Chair of the Worcestershire Safeguarding Adults Board and the Chair of 'Love Southampton', a body that represents a number of food banks and 4 debt advice centres on behalf of the Churches in Southampton. He is also an Ambassador for ‘Faith in Later Life’ and a member of Above Bar Church Southampton.
Rebecca van der Westhuizen Adviser Expand Rebecca van der Westhuizen Rebecca is an experienced Director having spent the majority of her career as a senior fundraiser within the third sector. She was a trustee of AtaLoss until March 2023 and is now advising the charity on fundraising. From her years of working in fundraising & communications, she has knowledge on raising vital funds from various income streams and catering communications to engage and inform supporters. Like many, Rebecca has experienced bereavement in her own life, and is an advocate for supporting people at the earliest opportunity through their bereavement journey.
