AtaLoss has welcomed Ben Jacob as its new Chair of Trustees, as the charity marks ten years of helping bereaved people find support.
Ben is an Underwriting Partner at Syndicate 2791 at Lloyd’s, where he specialises in complex marine and energy risks. He has worked in the London insurance market for 28 years and has been with the company since it was founded in 2001. He also serves on several committees, including the Joint Hull Committee, which represents the interests of the London Hull market internationally.
Alongside his business career, Ben has held a number of charity trustee roles. He spent 17 years as Warden of St Peter’s in Brighton and is currently a trustee of 4M UK, which provides challenging outdoor adventures.
Ben’s decision to join AtaLoss was inspired by seeing The Bereavement Journey® delivered at his local church. Having lost a younger sibling during childhood, he also understands personally how bereavement can continue to affect someone through adult life.
“I saw how The Bereavement Journey® helped people navigate grief after bereavements both recent and long ago, and the difference that sharing the journey with others could make,” said Ben. “AtaLoss has built a strong foundation over the past ten years. I’m proud to support its work to help ensure that everyone can find the support they need when someone has died.”
AtaLoss brings together public awareness, national signposting through AtaLoss.org and local peer group support. The charity works to help people find timely support and to make the case for bereavement support to be recognised as a public health priority.
AtaLoss Chief Executive Revd Canon Yvonne Tulloch said: “We are delighted to welcome Ben as Chair. His personal understanding of bereavement, together with his experience of leadership in business and the charity sector, will be a great asset to AtaLoss. The charity has an important contribution to the country’s social reform and a scalable, cost-effective model to do so. Ben’s leadership will enhance our vision.”
Ben added: “Millions of people experience bereavement, yet its effects are still too often overlooked. With the support of our partners and supporters, AtaLoss can build on its first decade and help more people find the support they need.”
