AtaLoss Announces National Bereavement Matters Season

Author: Deborah Auty

Date: 1st May, 2026

Overview: AtaLoss has announced the launch of Bereavement Matters, a new annual two-month season of bereavement awareness taking place across the UK each November and December.

To mark our 10th anniversary, we are launching a new annual Bereavement Matters season - a national awareness campaign running throughout November and December. This initiative will seek to enhance the grief and bereavement awareness weeks, themes and opportunities throughout the period, recognising the importance of responding well in our society.

The season will:

  • Shine a light on the realities of grief through real stories of loss, highlighting the wide-ranging impact of death on individuals and communities

  • Amplify key moments, including the Church 'Season of Remembering’, Remembrance Sunday, Children’s Grief Awareness Week and National Grief Awareness Week

  • Help people find support in the lead-up to and over Christmas - often one of the hardest times of year for those who are grieving

  • Spark conversations about death and bereavement

  • Promote the importance of support.

A moment to gather

We will launch the season at a special 10th anniversary Evensong at St Paul’s Cathedral on 30th October, bringing together bereavement services, national and community leaders, dignitaries and public figures committed to change. Tickets are available now.

Yvonne Tulloch, CEO of AtaLoss says:

“The Bereavement Matters season is another step in building a more grief-literate society. By increasing awareness and bringing people together, we can push for making sure every bereaved person in the UK can access timely and holistic support.”

The announcement coincides with the beginning of AtaLoss’ 10th anniversary year, marking a decade in which the charity has grown into a leading national organisation addressing a significant gap in bereavement support.

Over the past ten years, AtaLoss has built a scalable and cost-effective model combining national signposting, community-based provision, and public awareness. Bereavement Matters is an important step towards the impact we, and our sector, can continue to make over the next decade and beyond.
