Help everyone find grief support this National Grief Awareness Week and throughout December
#FindGriefSupport
Grief affects everyone differently
Everyone deserves to face it knowing where to turn for help and understanding.
This National Grief Awareness Week (2-8 December 2025) marks the launch of our December campaign for gold standard, universal signposting – so every bereaved person can find the support that’s right for them. A significant bereavement can be the hardest of experiences and most people don’t find the help they need*. Situations and needs vary and being directed to the range of support and information, for choice and holistic help, can make all the difference.
Many people have suppressed their grief, with seasons such as the lead up to Christmas and other winter festivals, triggering their pain. This is why in December it is so important that people know where to turn for help.
Reach out to someone who is grieving
Supporting someone who is grieving can feel daunting. In this short film, Revd Lisa Coupland, from BBC’s The Traitors, shares how we can do so, alongside directing them to further help.
Join our campaign – help people #FindGriefSupport
We’re inviting everyone to raise awareness of the importance of effective bereavement signposting this festive season. Signposting to bereavement support is more than naming a few, well known services, as these can be overwhelmed. It is helping people actually find support; help which is right for the circumstances, when it is needed.
Share your story, your service, or your message of understanding using #FindGriefSupport, #AtaLoss, and #NationalGriefAwarenessWeek
You can also watch video stories from well-known supporters who share their own experiences of bereavement and the importance of knowing how to find help.
Find support for you or someone you know
Direct every bereaved person who may need support to AtaLoss.org, throughout December, not forgetting the lead up to New Year.
Help people connect to the support you offer
If your charity, community group, faith organisation, or service offers regular bereavement-related support, you can list it for free on AtaLoss.org.
When people search for help, your listing ensures they can find your service quickly and easily, helping more bereaved people to access the right support when they need it most.
Voices in Parliament
Wednesday 3rd December
As part of our campaign, we’re also taking our message of the importance of effective bereavement signposting to policymakers.
During National Grief Awareness Week, in collaboration with Cruse and other leading bereavement charities, and as part of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Grief Support and the Impact of Death on Society - we are holding a Parliamentary Drop-In to champion effective signposting. APPG Chair, Maureen Burke MP will be inviting fellow parliamentarians to explore:
Why better signposting is needed
What “gold standard” signposting might look like in practice
How effective signposting transforms lives, including stories from people who struggled to access timely support after a bereavement.
This event coincides with the UK Commission on Bereavement’s latest review, their report in October 2022 having highlighted the urgent need for signposting and more bereavement support.
Together, we can transform how grief is supported and ensure every bereaved person can find the right help.
