Help bereaved children and teenagers get the support they need
This year, your donation will support our Listening People project, dedicated to helping children and young people through one of life’s hardest experiences – the loss of someone important to them.
Your money has the potential to fund the development and roll-out of a youth-focused version of our award-winning The Bereavement Journey® to provide structured, volunteer led, age-appropriate support. Co-created with experts and young people, funding allowing, this new programme will be delivered through schools, churches, and community groups, offering a safe space for young people to understand their grief and build resilience.
The ‘Forgotten Grievers’
Children and teenagers are often overlooked following a bereavement. Assumed to be “too young” to fully understand, their grief is frequently misunderstood or missed entirely. But the truth is simple:
Losing someone important shakes a young person’s entire world.
Grief during critical stages of emotional, social, and cognitive development can have a profound impact. That’s why it’s vital that the right support is there - early, considered and tailored to them.
Together, we can change this.
When their father Alvin died suddenly, Reuben, Isaiah and Solomon were teenagers trying to keep up with school and daily life while carrying a grief few around them recognised.
In this video, they share how tough it was to go through such a loss. Yet the moments when someone listened, noticed and made space for their feelings made a real difference.
Their experience reflects what many young people face — and why projects like Listening People are so vital.

How we help
Our Listening People project provides practical training and tools for parents, carers, teachers, youth workers, counsellors and anyone working with children and young people.
Led by Pete English, with over 30 years’ experience supporting young people in schools, the programme helps adults feel confident, safe and prepared for important conversations with children and young people around loss.
Giving young people the tools to navigate tough emotions. Tough Stuff: Someone Has Died - a guided journal that helps late Primary and early Secondary School children to express feelings they may otherwise struggle to understand or put into words.
With your support, we can go even further
Expand Listening People to meet growing demand, including new RHSE requirements for grief education in schools.
Develop CPD-accredited online training for professionals, businesses, and public services – helping them respond effectively to bereaved people.
Create a youth version of The Bereavement Journey®, co-produced with young people and delivered in person and online. Planning has begun, but funding is essential for development and roll-out.
