Victims’ Code – SAMM

Victims’ Code is a guide from Support After Murder and Manslaughter (SAMM) explaining the rights of people bereaved by murder or manslaughter when dealing with the criminal justice system.

The guide explains the rights that bereaved family members and friends can expect from criminal justice agencies in England and Wales, including the right to receive information about the investigation and prosecution, the trial and its outcome, support available to them, compensation and the offender following a conviction. It also explains the right to make a Victim Personal Statement and to complain if their rights have not been met.

The resource is available as a downloadable leaflet in English, Gujarati, Urdu, Polish, Punjabi, Kurdish and Arabic. SAMM also provides confidential help for people who have questions about their rights or need help understanding the Victims’ Code.
