The National Bereavement Service (NBS) provides free, impartial, and practical guidance to anyone who has experienced a bereavement. Most people only deal with the practicalities after a death once or twice in their lifetime, so the long list of required tasks can feel overwhelming—especially during a time of emotional distress.

Our experienced advisors offer clear, step-by-step support with everything that needs to be done, including:

 Registering a death

  • Arranging a funeral

  • Understanding probate and dealing with money, property, and possessions

  • Practical next steps tailored to each individual’s circumstances

  • Emotional “first-aid” support, with signposting to specialist charities for longer-term help where needed

If we don’t have the answer, we will always know who does. We explain options in simple, straightforward language without judgement or pressure. Our goal is to make the practical process less stressful and help people feel supported at every stage.
