Matthew Hutton
A former solicitor and tax specialist, Matthew continues to manage the family farm and is also now an Anglican priest with a strong interest in bereavement and end-of-life planning. His book Your Last Gift – Getting Your Affairs in Order (2nd edition, 2024) grew from his desire to help people prepare practically for death and to ease the burden on loved ones. He is frequently invited to speak on these issues and share his experience, drawing on both his professional background and pastoral insights.
Since 2020 Matthew has been a Deputy Lieutenant of Norfolk. Apart from family life, Matthew’s other interests include: ending Violence Against Women (having been a Founder Trustee of the charity Restored in 2010), helping prison leavers (having chaired the Trustees of Community Chaplaincy Norfolk from 2019 to 2022) and supporting the homeless (being a member of the Advisory Board of St. Martin’s Housing in Norwich).
Through his role as a Subject Matter Expert for AtaLoss on Preparing for Death, Matthew aims to encourage open conversations about death and dying so that, when bereavement comes, families are not overwhelmed with all the essential things that have to be done whilst shouldering the weight of loss.
