About this Event

This introductory training session is offered on a range of dates and times for you to choose from and will provide an overview and introduction to the complex topic of how children and young people manage loss. The two hour sessions include a 30-minute slot for specific questions from participants and it will offer the following learning outcomes:

The session provides an introduction to the topic of how children and young people (CYP) manage loss including offering the following learning outcomes:

  • An understanding of how the current COVID 19 environment impacts on the grieving experience of CYP and therefore the school environment;
  • An exploration of one theory of loss and how it might apply to CYP;
  • Participant confidence building to support CYP impacted by loss;
  • Introduction to ready to use ideas and tool including our Tough Stuff journal – Someone Has Died 
  • A key list of hyperlinks to relevant organisations that can provide you with information, support and resources.

Who is the course for?

If you work with or come across bereaved young people and children in your day to day work, this short course is for you. Based on recent course attendances, we know participants drawn from the following areas of work are finding this invaluable;

- Teachers and anyone in an educational setting

- Youth workers

- Social workers

- Police and youth offender workers

- Hospice and health care workers

- Other charities supporting young people

- Church leaders and youth leaders in faith settings although there is no faith content in the course material.

About our trainer   

Our session will be led by Pete English MBACP, a highly regarded trainer in this field. Pete has over 25 years of experience working with young people through counselling in schools and leading church-based youth work - he really does know what it is like to support young people through difficult times. Pete has a wealth of up to date and ‘real life’ examples to draw on and share with you.

Pete English also provide more in-depth training for individuals or organisations wishing to develop their professional skills in this area and also bespoke packages for whole school training on request. Contact us for more information.

Material used on the course has been developed by Pete English. He has also developed two 'Tough Stuff Journals' for young people to work through- one called 'Someone has died' and the other about 'Parents splitting up'.
