The Rethink Mental Illness NCL Support After Suicide Service is a free and confidential service offering support to individuals bereaved by suicide whom live, work and or study within the 5 North Central London Boroughs of Camden, Islington, Barnet, Enfield and Haringey. They also provide support to individuals from outside of these boroughs but who are bereaved by a suicide that occurred within the boroughs.

There is no upper or lower age limit.

They also offer informative support to employers and organisations within these boroughs who may have been impacted by suicide.

3 Means of Support Offered:

Bereavement Support:

Our 121 bereavement support sessions are not formal counselling. This 121 support is a broader support intervention than counselling, It that covers both practical and emotional support needs and takes a holistic (whole person) approach looking at a range of psychological and social factors that impact on a person’s health and well-being, their grief and loss. The support comprises of 6x personalised weekly support sessions, followed by 6x fortnightly sessions, with the option to extend support if needed. With the additional provision of monthly check-in sessions for 6 months & provide anniversary(s) of the bereavement support.

 

  • Person centred, emotional support to talk about your bereavement, discuss coping strategies & find ways of dealing with your loss
  • Signposting & referral to other services
  • Practical support including help to navigate processes e.g. police, funeral arrangements, inquests & support to talk to others about the reason for the bereavement e.g. wider family, friends, employers, education etc
  • Advocacy to help have your voice heard & speak out

 

Bereavement Counselling Service:

Is a time limited formal Bereavement Counselling support provided by counselling trainees and qualified counsellors and therapists.

                Comprises of 6-8 formal 121 counselling support:

  • Person centred, emotional support to talk about your bereavement, discuss coping strategies & find ways of dealing with your loss

Bereavement Support Groups

Closed support groups with a maximum of 6 participants. This means that the members of the group will remain the same during the group sessions promoting feelings of trust, confidence and safety for group members.

The group is facilitated by a Suicide Bereavement Worker & a Service Volunteer with lived experience of bereavement by suicide.

Each group will be for 90 minutes and take place weekly over a 12 week period.

The groups provide:

  • A safe/supportive space to discuss & explore without judgement; bereavement by suicide, trauma, loss and grief on yourself, your family, your networks
  • Share stories & experiences in a safe environment
  • Gain peer support,
  • Build connections with others
  • Break down the myths & stigma associated with suicide & bereavement by suicide
