The Compassionate Friends is a national peer support charity of bereaved parents, adult bereaved siblings (aged 18 and over) and grandparents offering support and understanding to others after the loss of a child from one month old up to an adult child and from any cause.  Our national Helpline is open 365 days a year from 10 am – 4 pm and 7 pm – 10 pm on 0345 123 2304 and is answered by a bereaved parent who is here to listen and empathise.

The Compassionate Friends also offers

  • local support groups, support groups for parents in specific circumstances and one-to-one support.
  • a befriending scheme where the newly bereaved are ‘buddied’ by a volunteer longer-bereaved parent (Grief Companion Scheme)
  • group support via social media in private, well-moderated Facebook groups
  • weekend retreats and bereavement support days
  • social meet-ups including walks for the bereaved individuals all over the UK
  • information leaflets, bereavement support publications and a unique postal library on all aspects of bereavement
  • a comprehensive website and moderated private online Forum
  • support for specific causes of loss, for example parents bereaved by suicide, by substance use or alcohol, road traffic incident, for cancer and for parents who are bereaved of their only child or children
  • support for adult bereaved siblings is also available
